This project focuses on conducting research in a foreign country for a period of two weeks\, foll owed by two weeks of traveling across the country on your own terms! The d estination is the beautiful country of South Africa. For this trip\, a gro up of highly motivated selected FEB students\, 1 professor\, 1 board membe r\, and 6 committee members will travel to South Africa to conduct researc h on sustainable development and to explore the country from April 23rd un til May 21st 2025. The research in South Africa will be carried out in col laboration with Stellenbosch University and will be aligned with the Susta inable Development Goals from the United Nations. Stellenbosch is a beauti ful university town in South Africa’s Western Cape province\, approximat ely 50 km's from Cape Town. This mountainous town is known for its vineyar ds\, student life\, and rich history. This year's research theme is Decis ion Making about Sustainability among Entrepreneurs &\; Businesses. Wh ere we aim to study how businesses and entrepreneurs make decisions about sustainability by studying the intra/inter business/entrepreneur decision making process. For the purpose of the research you will be split up int o groups which focus on specific aspects of the research project.  To pre pare you for the journey\, you will attend a course (5 ECTS) dedicated to this project to fully equip you with the skills necessary to conduct your research during block 2.1. Following up on this\, during the two weeks of research in Stellenbosch\, you will collaborate with local students from t he Small Business Academy of Stellenbosch University and work in focus gro ups. There will be visits organized (for example\, to the HIV/AIDS Centre and the Sustainability Centre) which will help you to gain the information necessary for contextualizing the research. You will complete the course with a final presentation of your research by the end of the second resear ch week. This way you will be done with the coursework before your two wee ks of  traveling on your own.  Detailed information about the course wil l be made available in Ocasys from September 2024 onwards.  Your IDP adve nture begins on the first Monday of block 2.1\, 2024-2025. There will be w eekly mandatory course lectures for 7-10 weeks and most weeks we will foll ow up the lecture by a group dinner and social until we depart to South Af rica. After we return to the Netherlands\, we will finalize the entire pro ject with a  celebratory event in Groningen.  The total participation fe e will be between aournd €1250 and includes flight to and from South Af rica\, accommodation for the first two weeks\, and transportation costs fo r the first two weeks.
