ell Business Challenge in 2017 gave me a surprisingly good insight in the
various business activities that are needed in managing complex investment
portfolios on a global scale. I realised during this business challenge\,
through mentorship from a senior manager from Shell that using only finan
cial metrics really doesn’t cut it when you need to decide on investing
in an offshore LNG plant in Nigeria or investing in a solar plant in China
. It showed me the vast and complex world of energy markets and I got to k
now Shell and its culture through these coaching sessions with my mentor a
nd presentations (and drinks) with people from Shell. Through this experie
nce it became clear that I wanted to make a real impact through the energy
market and I am now working for a company providing sustainable energy to
over 100 million people worldwide. I would highly recommend participating
in the EBF – Shell Business Challenge to anyone who is seeking a real c
hallenge and is interested in energy and sustainability. Thomas Jonkman Co
